At the time of the year between the spring equinox and the summer solstice, according to ancient pagan lore, the midpoint is called 'Beltane', beginning with May day. A time of renewal, purification, fertility and transition it was generally celebrated with great bonfires and ritual.
Walpurgisnacht is the night before (April 30th) and is traditionally the biggest Witches Sabbath of the year, the time when the forces of the supernatural meet with the mortal world.
The exhibition will take place from 1 May to 1 June, 'Beltane month', with the private view taking place on Walpurgisnacht.
